We have had a very long couple of weeks attempting to breast feed and as of last monday i’ve been weaning off. Little Alora could not attach properly and the breast pump was distroying me!
I feel so much better having finally made the decision to wean as expressing every 4 hrs was too much.
Alora is doing really well. She had her 6 week check up at the doctors today and weighed in at 4.1kg. she’s...

Well, going in for a snuzzles my husband Scott was rather surprised when Alora decided his face, more specifically his nose, was boob like! She had no trouble latching on to his snoz!
Scott quite enjoyed the sensation and told me to keep on attempting to breast feed as “its quite nice”!!
For our next breast feeding attempt I’ll ask scott to stand by in case I need his nasal assistance!!
Daddy nose...

Below is a list of stuff the midwives don’t tell you and assume you know. These tips may seem obvious when you read them, however, when you’ve had 1 – 1 1/2hrs sleep a night for 6 nights in a row and you’ve been expressing every 2 – 3 hours, thinking logically and problem solving don’t come easy. Remembering what the time is is hard enough!
USE A HOSPITAL GRADE PUMP – otherwise you’ll be...

Today we visited the child health centre where Alora was weighted and measured. She’s put on 340g’s in a week (piglet!) and is now 3kg 340g. YAY!
Last week the lactation consultant advised to stop attempting to breast feed for a week as my breast were damaged from her nipple sucking. She said to wait for Alora to grow. Today we tried to breast feed and hey presto…. She attached! Unreal! So...

I’ve learnt the amount you feed your baby depends on their weight… however; the midwives didn’t explain this properly to me and told me to feed Alora XXX mls per feed. What you should do is work out her daily requirements for example 3kg – needs 450 mls, then work out how much per feed. This takes the pressure off.
However, saying that, small babies I’m told do tend to eat more than recommended...

I don’t think babies need a night light, however, it helps mum to see what she’s doing! I’ve ordered a really cute elephant night light from Mum and bump along with some more Sahara maternity tops for breast feeding.
The maternity tops I bought from K-mart – whilst cheaper – are quite thick and tricky to use when expressing and breast feeding as the bra section is so thick. The sarhara tops...

I would have to say no its not hard expressing, just exhausting as you have to do it so often to promote your milk supply. It’s been 2 weeks and as Alora is so small, she’s having trouble attaching and I’m having to express breast milk every 2 – 3 hrs. The lack of sleep is killing me but I’m determined to breast feed.
Scottie is being an absolute rock! I”m not sure how he’s...

They sure can! After a week of trial and error, Scottie and I finally got 20 minutes to watch Dunstan baby language DVD. This DVD explains the 5 different words babies use to communicate what they want. I’m slowly starting to understand Alora’s needs now and she’s not crying as much.
Dunstan baby language DVD also includes soothing techniques for when a baby has wind and to get them to sleep. ...

Our swimming pool is almost complete!!! I have been looking at this empty hole in our backyard for the past three months. It has been a real tease. By this Saturday I should be floating my way into weightlessness! Thank goodness, I dont’ think I could handle another week of Princess Fiona looking feet.
Bring on Saturday!

I visited Emily, Scott and Alora last night. They are home now all doing very well. I was amazed at how small she is. Lately I have been surrounded by 10 pound babies but Alora was born weighing only 5 pound, 14 Ounces. She is truly gorgeous.
Visit Emily’s page to get updates on pictures of Alora.

Finally we’ve home! Everythings a bit hectic with no time for anything. Alora is tiny and not able to attach at this stage, I’m having to express every 2 hrs to feed her. I so glad to be home and out of the hospital, I was starting to get cabin fever. The midwifes at the gold coast hospital are fantastic. All have different bits of advise to help you. Now we’re on our own for a few days...

I’ve been walking round in circles all day not getting anything done and I’m suppose to be resting! This having no routine will take some getting used to – that is until the baby comes!

Today is my last day at work! I’m trying to finalise all the Bartercard online videos, DVDs, before i go… editing DVD’s is soooo labourious!
I’ll be honest it does feel rather odd to be my last day, the last 6 months have flown. I can’t wait to put my puffy feet up on my day bed and have a large glass of …. milk! ho hum!

Today christie and I had a joint leaving lunch at our local pub. Our work colleagues put together two massive baskets ( one pink, one blue!!) containing baby clothes, toys, bottles, nappies, even a bottle of wine! Christie and I were stunned into an appreciative silence when we saw the baskets.
Our lunch was fantastic, lots of funny baby stories told and advice given. We can’t thank our work mates enough...

Malmaison Botanical Interiors from Castlemaine Victoria are having a mid October sale.
I contacted Edwynna, the owner, and put an order in for some china Bunnykins products (bowl, mug) and a Peter Rabbit photo frame for Cubba’s room. She also has some really cute piggy banks…. However, I don’t know the sex of my baby so couldn’t decide on a pink or blue one! (This not knowing the sex of your baby...
