I had my first scare this morning as a mother.
Sienna was being held by her Nana and one of her feet went completely purple! She still had her hospital tag on so we immediately cut it off thinking that it was cutting off her circulation.
This made no difference and in a panick I called the maternity ward of my hospital. Unfortunately the person on the other end of the phone had nothing reassuring to share with me and instead told me to take Sienna to the public after hours clinic.
I was horrified at the idea of taking my brand new baby to the after hours clinic where she is likely to pick up all sorts of bugs.
Thankfully Nana jumped on the internet and googled “purple feet in new borns”. It turns out that this is a common occurance in new born babies and was nothing to worry about….if only the person at the hospital had told me that!
By simply massaging her feet I was able to get the blood pumping again. I also placed some botties on her feet to keep them warm. This seemed to help.
