Grand stuff Christie! Definately do the same for Sienna... especially when you put her to bed so she can get used to self settling in the dark.

In response to your advice on not sleeping with a night light. I have had it turned off for the past two nights and I have to say that once I turned my night light off I have felt like I have fallen into a much deeper sleep. I still wake up tired but I think I am still in catch up phase and of course having broken sleep will make anyone tired. So thanks for the advice, no more night light for me. I am yet to turn off bubs light as I wanted to try it on myself first.

Good advice Emily. Both baby and myself have been sleeping with a night light so that I can see when I wake up for the evening feeds. I am ALWAYS tired, which I know is normal for these sleepless nights but maybe turning off the night light might help me not to feel so absolutely exhausted and help me sleep better. It's worth a try anyway!

i've been reading 'Save our sleep' by Tizzie Hall and within this she discusses night lights. She advocates not using a night light as .....

"the brain's pineal gland produces a substance called melatonin when in dark places, so if your baby has a night on it can interfere with this hormone being made. Melatonin is actually a natural sedative that automatically slows the body down in preparation for sleep and it follows that a baby sleepign in a dark room will produce more of this and therefore sleep better" (Hall, 2006, pp. 11).

So, Alora now sleeps in the dark!!! I'd recommend this to every mum.
