WOW! What a day. My baby shower started with me being picked up in a car that had two flags coming out of the bonnet saying “Christie’s baby shower” and it also had purple ribbons (like a wedding car!). If anyone thought I was a hen they would have got a rude shock if they saw the size of my belly!
After a few photo opportunities at McDonalds and other landmarks, we arrived at my sister’s house where a heap of my girlfriends were waiting for me.
It was great to see everyone as I have felt a little reclusive during the last nine months.
I was showered with the most amazing gifts from some of the most lovely ladies in my life. Not only was it a fun day but my friend Luana arranged for a baby blessing by a celebrant and my friend Bec and partner also wrote a song for our bundle of joy and sang it on the day. It was so special. It was a very emotional day with both grandmothers also saying a blessing and each guest giving me a bead with their wish for me and bub. Lu is putting the necklace together for me to wear during my labour. Hopefully it will give me strength!!
Oh, did I mention that I was wearing fairy wings, a bib and a tiara!

Can you tell me a little more about Bartercard? I love the idea of not spending cash on items and if we can save cash in our business that would be great. My husband has a small business and probably like everyone else we are really feeling the pinch of the GFC. Does it matter what size business?
Hi Camilla! No it doesn’t matter the size of the business. It has been a really tough couple of years for businesses and Bartercard has been able to help members by introducing new customers, increase sales, actively market their business and allowing them to gain access to an interest free line of credit that allows the business to keep moving forward even in tough times.
To briefly explain, Bartercard is a Barter exchange where businesses trade with each other without the need for cash or having to directly swap their product or service. It works really well for businesses that have excess stock or have spare capacity such as empty tables at a restaurant, unfilled appointments etc.
An example of how it works: a plumber takes payment in Bartercard Dollars (Trade Dollars). The Trade Dollars are then credited to his account. The plumber can then use the Trade Dollars to spend with any other Bartercard member. As there are over 20,000 businesses in Australia from all different industries the spending opportunities are huge.
Trade Dollars are equal to 1 Australian Dollar and businesses use them to pay for things they need within their business or lifestyle. For instance your husband might use his Trade Dollars to have new business cards designed and printed, take you out to dinner, arrange a family holiday or use it to pay for radio advertising or bonuses for staff.
I have used $5,000 Trade Dollars to purchase all the things I need for my baby such as a Pram, baby swing, baby rocker, highchair, car seat etc. Click here for purchases. This cash saving has allowed me to use the government baby bonus to have some time off work, rather than using it to pay for all the baby items that I need.
I hope that gives you an idea on how Bartercard works. Click here to find out a bit more or visit http://www.bartercard.com.au or call 1300 BARTER (1300 227 837)
