Antenatal classes

Christie-head-shotTonight is our last night of our antenatal classes. We have been going for the last 4 weeks at our hospital. I have to say my husband had heard from other mates that it is a waste of time but it has been fantastic!!! Even though I am really tired by 7pm each night we have both really looked forward to each class.

I haven’t done a lot of reading throughout my pregnancy so it has been great to hear from an experienced midwife about what options are available to us. As much a I feel that they are trying to encourage us to not accept intervention, we have learnt all about the drug options. Personally, I have decided not to be brave….bring on the epidural!!

I friend at work said to me the other day “we didn’t go to the hospital to have a baby, we went to hospital to get an epidural!” LOVE IT!!

Last week we learnt all about breastfeeding and watched a great video on the right technique. Fingers crossed bub and I can make it look as easy as it was on the film. For information on breastfeeding visit the Australia Breastfeeding Association website, it is full of great information.

Tonight we will be learning about wrapping the baby and changing nappies..I’m sure Matt will love this class!

We’ve just been to our 4th class with 2 left to go. Tim and I have enjoyed every minute of it, especially the tour of the maternity ward and birthing suites. The no-holes-barred question time was awesome, and the midwives make you feel so secure and that no question is a silly question. Can’t wait to see what happens next week!

Hi Jessie I am so glad that you enjoyed the classes too. In my last post I mentioned that we were going to learn the wrapping technique. Matt and I and another couple also called Matt and Christie FAILED. We were rolling around the floor in laughter…how were we going to look after our new baby when we couldn’t even wrap a doll!!
Thankfully now that bub (Sienna) is here we are experts! Let me know how you go with the rest of the classes.
